Voltage and Power

Electricity in the Eastern Cape is generally at 220/230 volts AC 50 Hz, 15 amps, and is supplied through either 15-amp three-prong or 5-amp two-prong plugs, in both cases with round pins. If youre bringing anything electrical, bring an adapter – or you could buy one here. Generally, the 110V video chargers work safely on the 220V supply. Television is on the PAL system US-made appliances may need transformers, which are available in South Africa.

Most of this province’s towns do have electricity but in really rural areas such as the Transkei would use gas or generators as their power supply.
