Custom made horse treks along the Wild Coast and short weekend get-a-ways.

Our Castaway Trails are an eclectic collection of different itinerates and custom made riding options.
Here are a few samples of what is available, we like to use the hotels available as it mean we get a comfortable bed, hot shower, good food and pub to socialize in at night! If you are the more adventurous type and would like to rough it and camp, we can do that too, but you would need to bring your own tent & bedding and be prepared to help set up camp, and be hands on with ect.

These are short description, basically outlining the accommodation for each night along the coast. Our days are filled with exciting riding, breathtaking views, long hacks through stunning countryside and a sense of freedom and open space seldom experienced in other places. There is nothing quite like catering down a deserted beach with no one else in site and the only sound is crashing waves and the horses hooves on the hard sand – and the occasional “yahoo” from one of the riders! Beginner & Novice Trails

• 1 night 2 days Trennery’s Trail
• 2 night 3 days Qolora Trail

This is a perfect option for riders who don’t do a lot of riding, or one partner is a rider and the other is a beginner! There is a good mix of pace, stunning locations and this section of our trails is easy to adjust the pace to suit each riding group. It’s just long enough for a great weekend away, lots of fun and not too many sore muscles!

ACCOMMODATION at Trennery’s Hotel includes all meals, accommodation, horse riding & luggage transfers.

 Beginner rider = someone who is comfortable in the saddle & can stay on a reliable well school horse. They can post to the trot (go up and down) and may have cantered a few times = Beginners generally ride once or twice a year on holiday with their partner!
 Novice rider = someone who is comfortable in the saddle & enjoys a reliable well schooled horse. They generally ride at a riding school once or twice a month, or like to ride friend’s horses on the farm. They can trot comfortably and enjoy a nice controlled canter.

Intermediate & advanced short getaways

• 2 night 3 full days of horse riding Qolora Trail ( A more leisurely few day, lots of riding and the comfort of Trennery’s Hotel)
• 2 night 3 full days of horse riding Nxaxo Trail (for advanced riders only riding to Wavecrest Hotel)
• 3 nights 4 full days of horse riding Jacaranda Trail (1 night at Trennery’s & 2 nights at Wavecrest, this is a perfect escape for more experienced riders.
• 4 night 5 full day of horse riding Kobonqaba Trail (2 nights at Trennery’s & 2 night Wavecrest, this is a short version of our Wild Coast Horse Trails – a lot more riding and perfect for confident equestrians)

These are 3 to 5 days of great riding, open country side, rolling hills and long beaches ensure that you get to do some awesome riding on fit, fast, forward going well schooled horses. A gallop down a beach, the sea air, open spaces and lovely horses will leave you refreshed, exhilarated and tired all in one. It is a perfect way to clear all the stresses and strains of a working week, and we know that you will be back again soon to get some more Wild Coast magic!

 Intermediate rider = someone who rides regularly and enjoys a forward going well schooled horse. They may or may not be a little nervous for the first little bit while they get to know their horse. They can control their horse independently and is confident trotting and in controlled canters.
 Advanced Rider = someone who is comfortable on any horse in most situations. They ride regularly and may or may not have their own horse. They have a good seat and maybe considered rather “horsey” J

Longer custom made horseback trails along the Wild Coast

We are able to custom make longer treks up the coast to your specifications. Due to the logistics of riding along the coast, we have to take into account the time of the year, tides and river crossings when planning your itinerary, so each horse riding adventure is unique and original. We also have to factor in that on some occasions the back up vehicle has to travel huge distances on very poor roads to meet us!

The stunning Wild Coast environment constantly changes as we ride North along the shore line. It is difficult to describe the ever changing landscape – you really would have to ride it to understand how beautiful it really is.

We are able to ride to the following destinations all year round.

• Mazeppa Bay Hotel
• Kob Inn
• Dwesa Nature reserve (log cabins)

On a spring low tide and only during the dry season (June/July/August) we are able to ride further up the coast, incorporating, Coffee Bay, Hole in the Wall, Bulungulah & The Heaven. We may even truck the horses to Coffee Bay to start trail and ride back South to Kei Mouth – planning and logistics all depend on us being able to cross the Mbashe river on a spring low tide.
