The Grahamstown National Arts Festival 2010 (20 June - 4 July 2010)

It's a 10-day explosion of theatre, music, dance, art exhibitions, street performances and more and hits the Eastern Cape town of Grahamstown every year at the end of June.

The National Arts Festival started in 1974 as a project of the Grahamstown Foundation, it has evolved into the leading arts festival in southern Africa. It really is the place to be, and South Africans from around the country brave all kinds of weather to get there.

Over 120 000 supporters flock to the picturesque university town - home to the famous Rhodes University - to experience one of the world's most diverse displays of creative talent from the full cross-section of South Africa's cultures.

It's non-stop theatre, live music, a vibrant street and night life, buskers, walking tours, lectures and plenty of craft shopping. The Festival features an extensive line-up of South African and international events, mixing new talent with established stars and capturing the spirit of the moment for a broad spectrum of audiences.

Sponsored by the Eastern Cape government, Standard Bank, MNET, the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, The Sunday Independent and the National Arts Council, it's a cultural event that has people returning every year after their first visit.

Take leave from the office; take time out from your regular activities; take the family and friends and head off to Grahamstown . . . it's one festival anyone who loves our culture shouldn't miss!
