One of the most beautiful spots at the Wild Coast is the small community of Coffee Bay. The Village consists of beautiful rural xhosa huts, a trading store, a camping site, backpacker lodges, B & B's, cottages and two resort hotels.
The subtropical coast is stunning and the long sandy beach is untouched between the green rolling hills and the turquoise sea. Coffee Bay surely is one of South Africa's paradises.
The bay got its name in 1893 when a ship full of coffee beans ran aground here. Some of the beans did take root and grew into little coffee shrubs, but the soil was too salty for the plants to thrive, and today you can look in vain for the coffee trees of Coffee Bay.
Coffee Bay is an ideal destination for the outdoor enthusiast, fishing, abseiling, quad biking, hiking and surfing are among the activities on offer.
Coffee Bay is host to the annual Bomvu Festival which is a culture vulture and music lovers dream.
